New toy! Sony RDP-X60iP

Those of you who know me, know I love my iPhone 4S, and I keep all of my music on it.

I’d been looking into iPod docks for a while, and we’ve got a Panasonic one downstairs that is built into the blu-ray player. The only thing I found with the Panasonic, is that it was very disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, Panasonic make great looking hardware, but the firmware on this thing must be pre-war. I got so fed up waiting for this thing to turn on, that I timed it using the stopwatch on my phone. 25 seconds. Seriously? 25 seconds of my life was spent watching a tiny screen flash the words ‘Please Wait…’ on and off.

The other thing that I didn’t like about docks, is that you can’t really use the phone while it’s in the dock. You have to do this weird crab thing with your hands, to touch the screen without bending the phone backwards.

Walking through a Curry’s store the other day, I noticed a Panasonic Bluetooth iPod dock. It looked sleek and nice, like all Panasonic products, but after pressing the on button, it hit the usual problems. The one also had the lovely flashing ‘Please Wait…’ LCD display, which by now, was more painful than the speaking clock women.

So for my birthday, (which was yesterday) I was lucky enough to get a Sony RDP-X60iP Bluetooth streaming station, with iPod dock.

I’m absolutely in love with it. Being able to push one button on the device, and have pure powerful sound coming out straight from my iPhone, with no wires, makes this thing amazing.

I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with a Sony product. They all just seem to work exactly as they should. No ‘Please Wait…’ menus, or pointless 25 second waits. Just a nice green light, and a blue flashing button to enable the Bluetooth.

Pushing the Bluetooth button on the top starts it flashing, which makes it visible to my phone. After I connect to it, I’m able to play songs normally using the phone and they come out crystal clear. And I can keep the phone in my pocket, use all the normal apps, play Angry Birds etc. The 10m range is great, and Sony’s ‘MegaBass’ gives an amazing boost to the songs.

10/10 Sony. Definitely a great buy!

Hi Rob, can you stream you tube tracks to the Sony player ?

      Hi Tim.

Yes, the device will pair with anything that supports the Bluetooth standard, including PCs with Bluetooth support.

If you can access YouTube on that device (PC, iPhone, iPad, Android Device) it will forward the sound output to the Sony.
I’ve also used it as a hands free kit. Great for when you’re trying to type on the PC while on the phone.
